The Matrix: Conclusion

 


    For our debate on The Matrix, my team took the blue pill. To conclude the debate, I want to state my main claim as to why I support the blue pill. If one decides to continue living within the matrix, they will never know the difference. To them, they are in reality, and truly, that is all that matters. Life itself is all about perception, and making the most of what you have. If you decide to take the red pill, then you will have to live knowing that you are up against a race of artificial intelligence that are impossible to defeat. You would have to live knowing that no matter what you do, you are at the mercy of a robot. By taking the blue pill, you are making the active choice of living without the weight of inevitable defeat. Sure, it may not be the truest form of reality, but you wouldn't know that. You wouldn't have to to be happy.

Final Project

  Since this assignment is due before my group could finish our project, I would still like to discuss the general basis of what we will be doing. We will be looking at three things: a book series, a video game, and a movie! As a Creative Writing major, I am most excited to dive into the books series we will be covering titled The Illuminae Files by Jay Kristoff and Amy Kaufman. The main anti-hero in the series is AIDEN, an artificial intelligence robot that is strikingly similar to Hal from 2001: A Space Odyssey . AIDEN is known for being morally gray; he makes decisions that are impossible for any human to make, yet he ends up saving more lives doing so. However, his methods can be immoral, but he doesn't care; for his ship, AIDEN will do anything. AIDEN is an interesting character to look at because he pushes back against Asimov's Rules for robots. Hon 255: Idea Lab for the Humanities—Initial Thoughts and Expectations

     Hi everyone! I'm Karson Dickinson, an animal lover and proud nerd! I am a Creative Writing major with a double minor in English and Philosophy. In other words, I love to think and imagine all the possibilities that live out there in the world. My favorite classes are the ones that I have the freedom to interpret the material in any way I want. I don't like to have my thoughts put into a box, or having the expectation on me that I should perceive things in a certain light. That isn't natural, and I don't think it ever will be.      After the first class, I feel that we will  have that freedom to express our unique thoughts, and not be expected to have the same collective thought that is deemed "correct" by the instructor. Professor Santiago Echeverry seems to respect the unique thoughts of each of his students, and I am very excited to discuss those ideas in future classes.
