The 5th Element: Fashion Show!




 My group members and I had an amazing time working on this fashion show! After watching The 5th Element and LOTS of facetime calls, we came up with a theme that we all loved. We agree that overconsumption is taking over fashion, and that if we don't fix it, things could get really bad. 

    The first look: Sam wore clothes from brands that heavily contribute to overconsumption, and are known for their "fast fashion" trends. She wore futuristic makeup and hair to show if we don't change, overconsumption will forever be our future.

The second look: Abbie wore all recycled clothes, and even used trash to create her outfit. She did this to show that if we don't alter our path as a society, overconsumption will take over and be so powerful that we will be forced to wear trash for clothes.

The final look: I wore the final look, a representation of nature, to show the viewer what our hope for society is. We should be helping the earth, and not destroying it with our overconsumption. If we can go back to being natural, then we can avoid what Abbie and Sam represent. For this look, my chameleon Fred was the star!

Final Project

  Since this assignment is due before my group could finish our project, I would still like to discuss the general basis of what we will be doing. We will be looking at three things: a book series, a video game, and a movie! As a Creative Writing major, I am most excited to dive into the books series we will be covering titled The Illuminae Files by Jay Kristoff and Amy Kaufman. The main anti-hero in the series is AIDEN, an artificial intelligence robot that is strikingly similar to Hal from 2001: A Space Odyssey . AIDEN is known for being morally gray; he makes decisions that are impossible for any human to make, yet he ends up saving more lives doing so. However, his methods can be immoral, but he doesn't care; for his ship, AIDEN will do anything. AIDEN is an interesting character to look at because he pushes back against Asimov's Rules for robots. Hon 255: Idea Lab for the Humanities—Initial Thoughts and Expectations

     Hi everyone! I'm Karson Dickinson, an animal lover and proud nerd! I am a Creative Writing major with a double minor in English and Philosophy. In other words, I love to think and imagine all the possibilities that live out there in the world. My favorite classes are the ones that I have the freedom to interpret the material in any way I want. I don't like to have my thoughts put into a box, or having the expectation on me that I should perceive things in a certain light. That isn't natural, and I don't think it ever will be.      After the first class, I feel that we will  have that freedom to express our unique thoughts, and not be expected to have the same collective thought that is deemed "correct" by the instructor. Professor Santiago Echeverry seems to respect the unique thoughts of each of his students, and I am very excited to discuss those ideas in future classes.
