Creative Process and Quote Analysis






Creative Process:

    Creatively, I really enjoyed this process. I took the lead on the design elements of our project because in high school, I LOVED to do mixed media art. While I was most definitely rusty in my skills, I still had so much fun planning out how to build this, and deciding what was best for decorating in order to get our ideas across.
    My team worked together so well. After sharing all of our ideas, I implemented all of them equally into the design. I did a lot of measuring, cutting, and gluing to make this all come together after our hours of deliberation, and I'm SO happy with how it turned out. We worked together to create something we are all super proud of!


How I Interpreted Roy's Quote:

 “I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.”

  Immediately after analyzing this quote, I thought back to a story my Junior year Highschool English teacher told me: The only time a person truly dies is when the people after them stop sharing their stories. This hit me hard, because while I didn't like Roy in the movie, I still felt sad that he stories would die with him. Stories are the building blocks of our society, and without those stories, history is bound to repeat itself. In this case especially, those stories dying is extremely dangerous.

Final Project

  Since this assignment is due before my group could finish our project, I would still like to discuss the general basis of what we will be doing. We will be looking at three things: a book series, a video game, and a movie! As a Creative Writing major, I am most excited to dive into the books series we will be covering titled The Illuminae Files by Jay Kristoff and Amy Kaufman. The main anti-hero in the series is AIDEN, an artificial intelligence robot that is strikingly similar to Hal from 2001: A Space Odyssey . AIDEN is known for being morally gray; he makes decisions that are impossible for any human to make, yet he ends up saving more lives doing so. However, his methods can be immoral, but he doesn't care; for his ship, AIDEN will do anything. AIDEN is an interesting character to look at because he pushes back against Asimov's Rules for robots. Hon 255: Idea Lab for the Humanities—Initial Thoughts and Expectations

     Hi everyone! I'm Karson Dickinson, an animal lover and proud nerd! I am a Creative Writing major with a double minor in English and Philosophy. In other words, I love to think and imagine all the possibilities that live out there in the world. My favorite classes are the ones that I have the freedom to interpret the material in any way I want. I don't like to have my thoughts put into a box, or having the expectation on me that I should perceive things in a certain light. That isn't natural, and I don't think it ever will be.      After the first class, I feel that we will  have that freedom to express our unique thoughts, and not be expected to have the same collective thought that is deemed "correct" by the instructor. Professor Santiago Echeverry seems to respect the unique thoughts of each of his students, and I am very excited to discuss those ideas in future classes.
